My latest work includes a series of Sumo wrestlers. They are hand sculpted using white earthenware paper clay. The sculptures are then fired and glazed with a clear crackle glaze which is stained with black ink. This traditional and well known oriental glaze finish seemed a natural solution to surface decoration. Areas such as their hair, belts and bases are finished in a black stain which is left unglazed.
