Black Cockatoo in Graphite frames itself in opposition to the promise of the traditional, unchanging marble or bronze sculptural objects, as an ephemeral work of art. The work consists of a partially eroded black cockatoo carved in graphite. The bird's head faces the opposite direction to its body. The latter is significantly eroded; at the base of the work lays a pyramid like pile of powered graphite. Leave a window open and the work might blow away.
