Works that explore the nocturne have always interested me, especially with the use of light and dark as a metaphor for a wide range of states of mind: apprehension, melancholy, loneliness, despair, etc. Night Piece has some of these qualities combined with the unexpected, of birds at night which is not a common occurrence.
