First Principles touches on a number of ideas that inform my work. I have utilised the conventions and materials of etching as the content of the work and an end in themselves. Paper is presented as part of a cycle with miniature log-like offcuts of wood scattered amongst circular pages from old books, along with twig-like shapes and larger ridged tubes, constituted from the pulp of my own recycled prints. The plate has become a mirror-like base making precious materials arranged upon it.
