Pipe was inspired by the news that from July 1 2010, the display for sale of any smoking implements will be banned for small businesses in Australia. The idea that this is an eroding of traditional symbols of male authority is celebrated in the decoration on the sides and the walnuts, held in the pipe, represent the tough nuts men like to present to the world. Hand built and painted in underglaze, this is a tongue-in-cheek homage to all our husbands and fathers.
