This work is a continuation of the birds and animals theme. The work was influenced by the Life, Death and Magic exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia in 2010 which explored the ancestral art of SE Asia.
It was interesting to me how in many of the artworks in the NGA exhibition, the three dimensional and two dimensional became intertwined and the influences from China and India became localised.
Referencing Australian birds and marsupials and acknowledging the influence of Life, Death and Magic, this work considers what we have here at the end of the archipelago – Australia.
