I have this ideal that everything I need to make art is right under my nose and I return to this hypothesis again and again. Paint Tray is a work where the artist tools and props can be said to be a substitute for the artist himself.
I have used all the materials and techniques at my disposal to recreate the intimate world where the painter has spent many days, months and years. I indulge myself in all its filthy, painterly patina and revel in its triviality. The punch line is when you discover it's all just made of clay.
