From the series Snow Domes in the Age of Retreating Ice Caps, this work expresses concerns about global warming and the fragility of man when pitched against the forces of nature. Made from discarded by-products of our consumer culture, the work unravels an impending future-scape. It Became Our Raft also references Géricault's painting, The Raft of the Medusa, both in sentiment and structure. In Géricault's painting, it is the ship on the horizon which offers bleak hope; in this Snow Dome, it is a singular (last) tree that steers the course forward.
