The title directs us toward the idea than an artwork can function as a thing through or at which we look hoping to see beyond to another thing either depicted or suggested by the work. Often we do not see the thing before us and we never know it completely. I hope the act of interpreting a thing that presents both familiar and unfamiliar forms and relationships can encourage the viewer to reflect upon the way they are involved in creating meaning and how simple forms, colours and surfaces elicit associations.
