This sculpture is inspired from a trip to China in June 2009. I visited the city of Dazu in the province of Chongqing - in particular the immense 9th century rock carvings of Beishan. I was struck by how contemporary the Buddhist, Taoist and Confucianist statues seemed in showing us images of devils, hell and damnation.
