My First Car

David Marshall (VIC)

Artist Statement

A chronology of milestones past: the day I first crawled; my first steps; the appearance of my first tooth; my first day at school; my first bike; the first romance; my first job; my first car. 'Oh what a feeling!' A 1968 Toyota Corolla [corolla... origin Latin: 'little crown of flowers']. Its grey/brown paintwork polished to a brilliant shine: the pride and joy - a true celebration of independence and freedom: the status and prestige to be able to travel near and far. I was the king of the road adorned and resplendent in my 'Crown of Flowers'.
