As a ceramicist and a painter/printmaker I aim to combine these mediums in my sculptures. The imagery of the Torres Strait Islander artists, such as Dennis Nona and Billy Missi influences me through their connection to the earth and sea, essential to their livelihood and survival. Their heart's connection to their art is what gives their work its strength and I hope my heart and spiritual connection to the earth is conveyed through my sculptures.
Smoke - Pod is a combination of the ceramic shape with sgraffito markings, suggesting spiritual symbolism to both modern and primitive sensitivities.
