The Whorl series explores the Pythagorean theory of an underlying mathematical structure to the cosmos. The pieces are constructed from hundreds of small geometric paper units arranged in a preordained sequence. The organic structure of the works emerges automatically from following the sequence. Just as in nature, beauty and complexity arise from simplicity.
After the conceptualisation, the making is slow, repetitive and calming. I hope the pieces are quiet, meditative and reflect my delight in the sense of order and the sense of sight.
