A ball and socket, the freest of all joints, a soft meeting of hard things. Bone and cartilage, aluminium and plastic, the articulation of the organic and the anthropogenic. From aeroplanes to egg cups, the usefulness and redundancy of these wonder materials are the paradox of good and bad, with all the complexity of the modernist legacy.
