Landscapes describing the changing nature of life and the four seasons have been popular themes for Japanese screen paintings since the 14th century. As Time Goes By in Tokyo consists of four panels, each of which depicts my family and myself in a scene from daily life in Tokyo. The passage of time is marked by the colours of the seasons and the grain of the timber.
