Castaway refers to the transience of nature in peril, vegetation floating over the seas looking for a safe haven.
The flora has been cast away, abandoned by humanity so is a castaway, lost at sea, nature seeking sanctuary.
The heavy boat would not float so the flora would sink without trace, although the mere fact that the tree shows signs of life may mean climate change has not yet defeated it.
